This month, we're spotlighting local CMSA players who participated in the Whitecaps FC Academy Centre Showcase from April 4th - April 7th. This is a marquee event for player development and identification within Vancouver Whitecaps FC. This event provides an opportunity for players to come together, compete, develop, and get scouted by WFC staff, college and university coaches and national team coaches.

Calgary-based Whitecaps FC staff worked with the clubs over the last few months to identify and select 28 Calgary players to build two girls’ prospects teams to represent Alberta South at this event in junior and senior age categories. The boys side of the event saw 16 top players from across Calgary. In all, seven provinces were represented, with two male teams coming from Alberta – a North and South region team, respectively. The Alberta South Boys Prospects consisted of players coming from six different clubs within the CMSA district. Players were scouted and invited for this opportunity through observations during league play, conversations with club leaders about identified players, and occasional session or club visits.

The teams had a fantastic event showcasing the talent in Calgary. To top it all off, all 450 players and team staff attended the Whitecaps FC vs Toronto FC match on Saturday night. This event provided an opportunity for players to showcase their ability at a national-level competition, gain valuable development experience, while also creating social bonds and lifelong memories that will last well beyond the event.
