Become a Referee
Becoming a soccer referee can provide numerous benefits both on and off the field. Firstly, it allows individuals to deepen their knowledge and love for the game, as well as to stay physically active. Refereeing also promotes leadership, decision-making, and communication skills, as referees must be confident in making quick and fair decisions, often in high-pressure situations. Additionally, it can provide opportunities for personal growth, such as building confidence, developing problem-solving skills, and improving time management.
Moreover, it can serve as a pathway to a career in sports officiating or coaching. Finally, being a referee can also provide a sense of fulfillment, as individuals contribute to the fair and safe play of the game while helping to instill values of sportsmanship and respect in players and spectators alike.
To referee in Alberta, you must be at least 12 years of age and are required to complete the Junior (Mini) Referee Course. Anyone 14 years of age is required to complete the Entry Level Referee Course. How To Get Assigned To Games
League Games: CMSA schedules referees through an online system called Arbiter. Using the Arbiter system will be described during the referee course that you attend.
CMSA Tournaments: Tournament schedules will be sent directly to referees; interested referees can then provide CMSA with their availability. CMSA will send a tournament schedule to all referees.
